Is this normal?

Growing up my mom would always tell me to cover up when I was at home because of my step dad. He was in our lives from when I was 4-12 yrs old. I was not allowed to wear short lounging shorts around. I had to start wearing a bra 24/7 when I turned 9 (That's when I developed breasts). It was very uncomfortable. All of my other friends were able to shower then wrap a towel around them and go to their room to dressed. I had to be fully dressed from leaving the bathroom. My mom wasn't religious back then. She had been raped by my grandma's boyfriend's and other family member's so maybe that's why but I grew up feeling bad about my body and that if I attracted the wrong attention it was my fault.

I find it weird. I guess she's overprotective from what's happened to her, but if she feels there's a chance her husband can't be around you because he might abuse you, there's issues. So I wouldn't say it's "normal".  Theres absolutely no reason why you need to cover up your body to protect yourself from your stepdad that's absurd.  It's not like you're running around naked but always having to wear a bra... can't wear shorts? That's bullshit and I feel it would have negative affects on a person.  To put it simple, if your step dad was a sexual abuser, it would of happened regardless of what you wear. He isn't, he's cared for you since you were 4. I would speak up. I wouldn't want to live like that

No it's not normal, hes helped raise you since you were a child. She should trust him 100%. There's no reason you need to hide your body from him. He's basically your father.  People who do this to their kids and teaching their kids that a woman's body is inappropriate.

I had similar rules at my house growing up (with both of my biological parents). My dad still gets frustrated if he sees little kids running around in just a diaper or underwear. Their house, their rules. Now that I'm in my own house with my husband, I walk around without pants all the time 😂

Nope Its a respect thing. I wasn't aloud to go braless, or where revealing closing, or run around in a towel or a swim suit. It was out of respect because it made people uncomfortable. It wasn't a sexualized thing just not appropriate. I intend to follow the same rules with my kids.

I think because of your moms experience she's just protecting you is all. 
During the day I do make my daughter wear a bra she is 10, at night for bedtime she is allowed to go bra less as it's more comfortable for her, now I on the other hand always wear a bra even to bed. 
It may also be a respect thing as well if there is a lot of guys and boys in the house     
Just sit down and talk to your mom about it but it is her house her rules 🤷‍♀️
