What does it mean to be spiritual?

Does it mean religious, or something else? Can an Atheist be spiritual?

Also, a person can be spiritual without being religious and vice versa religion usually dictates rules and holidays and legalistic observances. Spiritual involved the state of the soul, mind, and body. I believe both are needed to love a Christian life. I cannot speak for other religions//faiths, though.

I knew a man in college who was atheist and I would say he was spiritual. He was very connected with nature and found infinite beauty in all of its processes and aesthetics but he didn't believe in any form of higher power. I think it's built into us as humans to recognize the supernatural even if we don't recognize religion or divinity of any kind.
