Parents sue school after suicide **TRIGGER WARNING**
On January 11, 2017, a 16 year old by the name of Corey Walgren was called to the office due to rumor of him making a sex tape of himself and another (unknowing) classmate. He admitted to it, and showed police & admin the video as well as other nude photos he had in a secret app disguised as a calculator.
Officials said they “conveyed the seriousness of the matter to Walgren while also reassuring him that their goal was to keep it out of court.” They also said he remained calm, cooperative, and respectful the entire time.
After 20 minutes of questioning, his parents were finally contacted about the matter. Over the phone, his mother said they would do whatever necessary to keep it out of court and was on her way to the school.
He was told to wait with a secretary, and when she walked off for a minute and came back he was gone.
Video surveillance later shows him walking up a parking garage to the fifth floor where minutes later he jumped off ending his life.
CPR was performed unsuccessfully and he was pronounced dead at the hospital.
His mom claims he must have suffered from “physiological distress, embarrassment, and shame” and says officials “scared the hell out of the kid, and that’s what caused Corey to kill himself.” Due to this, she sued the school.
TL;DR
A 16 year old makes a sex tape. School officials find out, talk to him about the seriousness of the situation but tell him they will do whatever they can to keep it out of court. Call mother 20 minutes after questioning begins, and on her way to school the student escapes the school, goes to a five story parking garage, and jumps off. The family sued the school for handling the situation improperly and said that they scared him to the point where he thought the only way to get out was by committing suicide.
