Am I wrong about this?

So my bf got a suggestion from his boss to apply for another job. It's within the same company but about an hour away. The job is higher up in the company and almost double his salary. He said he's not applying. Honestly I'm shocked because he loves this company and it doesn't make sense. His reason is that he doesn't want to worry about getting out of his current lease and moving somewhere new and old. I said just apply and see what happens. There's always the chance that they won't give him the job but at least he tried. Idk why he's worried about the rent so much because honestly it's not much at all and it would just be about 3 months he would have to pay like $2000 total. When comparing that to the increase in his salary if he got the new job it makes no sense. Do I keep encouraging him to apply or what? He seems interested in it but shows no initiative. It just annoys me that he isn't trying to "be more successful/get a higher paying job to buy a house" (does that make sense)
