Perineal Massage?

I've always feared the "vagina rip" and I definitely don't want an episiotomy so I've been doing my kegels and whatnot. However, I just came across the concept of perineal massage. Has anyone tried this or experienced the benefits of it?! My mom is all for episiotomies so I can't go to her about anything. 🙄🙄🙄

Someone said an epidural helps with tearing but I heard the opposite... with the epidural you can't feel the urge to push so you're just pushing and pushing and you end up over-pushing. When it's natural and you can feel each urge to push, you wont over-push and therefore you have less chance of tearing. Not sure which one is right

I've talked to my midwife about it and she's all for it! There are tutorials on Pinterest and you can just use coconut oil or olive oil! I plan on starting to do this soon! I'm 26 weeks and just found out that due to my low platelets it's very unlikely I'll be able to get an epidural. So I've been researching hypnobirthing and all natural birthing techniques like crazy!

Never tried it or heard of it.  My baby was 7 lbs 12 oz and I didn’t tear at all.  My doctor recommended the epidural.  He said patients are more relaxed and tend to tear less in his experience.  So it’s up to you.  I’m also tall and he said that also helps reduce tearing as I’m “an ideal birthing patient, with wide hips for this.”  I’m 5’9”.  🤷🏼‍♀️😂

my midwife dumped a bowl of olive oil on me and rubbed it all round and my son popped right out lol no rips.

I have a history of pain during intercourse (just upon insertion), so my midwife referred me to a physio who specialises in obstetrics. I'm only 22 weeks, and already doing stretching and massage exercises. She also recommended using Vaseline around the vulva after showering to lock in moisture. Fingers crossed this all helps prevent tears!!! 😬

I did it with my first pregnancy starting 30 weeks or so and it helped. I still tore slightly but it could have been worse.

My MIL had one and she said a little bit of scar tissue developed when healing and that it doesn't really 'stretch' afterward. Wasn't really a bad thing but not good either.

Never tried it. I had an episiotomy for my first. No rips, tears or cut for my 2nd.

my mom is all for episiotimes too, like we got into an argument about it. I was adamant on not having one. I didn't do the massages but I think it's worth a try!
