Toothbrushing?

Question

It’s a battle 2x a day! I take out two baby tooth brushes, let her hold one, I pretend to brush with the other for a minute, then I attempt to brush hers. 9 times out of 10 she clamps her mouth shut and then I wipe what teeth I can manage with a clean cloth. Any other tips? I don’t want to make a fight out of it. 😬

My son does this too, he's getting a little better now - I talk him through what I'm doing as I brush my own teeth (with my brush of course lol), then I talk him through getting his brush ready then I hold it up and say excitedly "Okay! toothbrush at the ready aaannddddd!!" he opens his mouth and laughs so I take that opportunity to brush while saying BRUSHBRUSHBRUSHBRUSH!! He eventually clamps down so I take the brush out and start the whole thing again until I feel like it's done. I sound like a crazy person but it works pretty okay!

I've noticed my daughter is more cooperative with toothbrushing if I count down first. I'll say one, two, three and go in and start brushing the top teeth. Take it out and do the same thing and brush the bottom teeth. I'm not sure why it helps but it has. Maybe because she can anticipate it? Same with her nose frida. No counting and she writhes. If I count first she laughs when i do it.

There are a ton of kid-friendly YouTube songs about brushing teeth that may help! You can also specifically tell them what and why you're doing it. A mirror may also help 😊

I honestly can't think of anything else but what Ur doing -distraction. our daughter loves chewing on it. she literally opens her mouth and let's me get to all her teeth. up and down side to side. when I'm done, she sticks her tongue out and I gently brush it. then I put oragel on (back molars coming in). I actually brush her teeth 3 times a day. morning, after lunch and after dinner. but she hates holding still. so for feedings we have her sit in her high chair with educational cartoons on. basically distracting her..it's the only time she watches tv. (more like tablet on u tube ). but we started her on the banana brush teether very early when she got her first tooth, at 4 months! by the time we started to actually brushing her teeth with paste, she just opened her mouth and waited for me to be done.

Have you tried an electric toothbrush? My son Loooves his. It was like $4 at Target.
