It’s not like you won’t have a change after him to pursue your other crushes. 
Once your an adult, you can date which is the definition of trying out different men until you find the one you like. To an adult a boyfriend means you decided you didn’t like any one else more at that time.
I was your age when I had my first boyfriend. We lasted for 4 years and eventually took each other virginity. He was my first, but very very far from my last. My fiancé and I got together when I was 22. He’s not my longest relationship but he is hopefully going to be my forever. 
As a teenager just learn what you like and don’t like in guys. So if you think this guy is a good starter boyfriend, go for it. Or look into getting to know your crushes more. It just is about getting to know and like people. So that when you meet the right guy, you’ll know. Takes practice! Have fun with the practice!

In my opinion it really depends on the situation. At 13 you aren't fully developed as a person and you have to be ready for problems along the way as you both change. I also think you should not have crushes while you are in a relationship. It is ok to think other people are attractive and things like that but if you could see yourself in a relationship with them then you are not fully committed to your relationship and should try and figure things out on your own before choosing who you want to be with.
