Egg retrieval and Embryo transfer realistic pain??

Question

Ok I know that pain is not the same for everyone but can a few ladies that have been through it tell us how they felt BUT without exaggerating? I mean same day after retrieval do I have to stay in bed? What abt next day? Same goes for the transfer? Can I schedule in anything in the days after the retrieval and transfer? Don’t know what to expect and I’m getting worried.

Egg retrieval was not bad at all. I went under anesthesia so was not able to feel a thing (putting the IV In was by far the worst part!). Woke up in recovery and felt great. My ER was on a Tuesday morning, I stayed in bed with a heat pad for the rest of the day but pain was mild, I was just being extra cautious. By Wednesday I was back to work (but have a desk job so just sat in my chair with my heat pack). I traveled out of town for a wedding I was MOH in Thursday and then had busy crazy days running errands and doing wedding things Thursday Friday Saturday with almost zero pain, the only pain was a brief stomach cramp when I urinated (sorry TMI!) but by Sunday I was 100% back to normal. I was very worried about getting OHSS so I made sure that leading up to and for the few days after that I drank a ton of Gatorade, at least 2L of electrolyte water per day, vitamin C and ate lots of brothy soups and took stool softeners.

As for the transfer, it was a little uncomfortable but not any less than any of my IUI'S.  I was on couch rest the day of transfer and then I kinda relaxed and spent time with family the day after.  I happened to be off for another week after and relaxed, did some walking but nothing overly strenuous.  I'm 4 weeks and 6 days today.

I had my retrieval yesterday! I took off yesterday and today. All day yesterday I slept.. not joking. The pain was horrible and I have a very high pain tolerance. They gave me strong pain meds but I'm weird about certain pain meds and couldn't take them. You'll be super swollen too. Over all it's not horrible. 
Make sure you drink Powerade or Gatorade!!!!

I have pretty severe PCOS, they told me that with PCOS you usually get sicker after the retrieval.  I was off for a week after and so very grateful for it, I got moderate to severe OHSS after my retrieval.  I have a high pain tolerance (I reset my own broken nose) and I had to have narcotic pain medication.  Really bad bloating, pain, shortness of breath and I was bruised up a bit.  My estrogen was over 12,000 so I was  feeling pretty yucky.  I drank 3-4 32 oz Gatorade's a day, plus I ate a couple packs of Ramen noodles everyday.  By 1 week I was better, when my period started I was wonderfully within 24 hours.

I was sore after the retrieval. A heat pack on my lower abdomen was amazing! I slept most of the day. I was moving better that night so I tried work the next day and kept my load light and stress low as possible and did fine... getting up and down was the hardest part and I walked slow but felt fine with half the amount of pain meds. I have a low pain tolerance so I’m surprised I didn’t feel worse.

I was under local anesthia when I did my ER so I was awake they said I won’t feel anything but I did. So the doc told the nurse to increase it. After I felt groggy and I think I slept for like an hour In recovery. I also feel nautious for a moment but was fine I actually didn’t throw up. It was early in the morning so when I got home I slept for a while. I think I felt pain in abdomin and lower back after but nothing crazy. The transfer process is very quick you don’t feel the catheter going up. I did 2 transfers and felt the same both times. I didn’t feel any pain after but I also did accupuncture pre and post transfer. I think the worst is the whole ER process your bloated and my abs were sore prior to from the meds. Hang in there don’t be worried. The worst thing for me in terms of pain through this whole process was  the sonohystogram and I actually had it done twice ! That wasnt fun!  Good luck !
