Which do you do?

Question

When having kids, especially younger ones, and you go into a place such as a museum with a gift shop, knowing 100% that you will not be buying your kids something from the gift shop, do you let your kid's go in and look or keep them out of the gift shop? To me if it was my child and I knew I couldn't or won't buy them something I will keep my child out of there completely. I don't want to show them all the cool or fun things and them have to tell them no to getting something. What are your thoughts? What do you do?

My family knows we don't go out to buy.
I'm yet to have a tantrum over not getting something, cause they know things they get are niceties, not necessities.

We just treat it like any other part of the museum..: I let him look and fiddle with things that are out in the open to be played with...when it's time to leave I say we're leaving. 
Sometimes he takes it well, sometimes he doesn't. But he's gotten way better. It's perfectly fair to take your kid in because it's good for kids to learn that every time you go somewhere you don't get something and that sometimes you don't get what you want just because you want it. I'd rather a few tears now and raise a centered kid who can handle hearing no than giving in or avoiding the gift shop for 18 years and having him learn these lessons as an adult (or worse, never learn the lesson and end up as a spoiled brat adult)

I let my kids look. We’ve never had an issue. If they have a tantrum then they know we won’t be coming back and they won’t be going to another museum or other similar place for a while until they can show me they can behave. They know we don’t buy things often (they have plenty at home). Sometimes we might let them get something, but that’s a special occasion thing. I also use it as an opportunity to pick up stocking stuffers or a gift for Christmas/birthdays. My husband distracts and I purchase- it works great an they’re surprised when they do eventually get the gift.

my son is a browser, he enjoys looking at things even when he can't have them.  so I've never had a problem in that regard, even when he was a toddler.

I have had to leave the museum gift shop with my son kicking and screaming the whole way to the car and half the car ride home because we told him he could not get a toy from the gift shop. 
Very embarrassing but I guess better than him being spoiled.

I let them look. We always explain what we're doing before we leave the house, so they know beforehand if we're getting things or just looking. My kids are 10,7, and 4 and they rarely ask for something when we have already told them we aren't buying things that day and I have never had one of then be upset if they ask and get told no. Disappointed, sure, but not upset and no tantrums. Every kid and family is different of course, so whatever works for you.

I let my daughter look; I think it's important to teach her we can't don't buy things because we feel like it. We don't get a toy or a treat just because are at a store, any store. Never had an issue as I've done it this way since she was a baby.

I dont actually have kids so what I’m saying may be wrong to some on you guys, but based on how I was raised and what id do with my future kids is just let them look. I think it’s good to teach them at a young age that they can’t have everything they see if that makes any sense?
