Am I a failure?

Question

So I’m 32 weeks pregnant with my first and I’m watching my niece who is now almost 2 month old. I feel like I’m going to fail as a mother to my own child since I had to call my SIL for her to tell me how to calm her baby. I think I’m a failure because if I can’t calm someone else’s baby then how am I supposed to calm my own?

Don’t worry about it. Every child is different and you’ll learn as you go. Plus, it’s different dealing with other people’s kids.

There’s a huge difference between someone else’s child and yours. Yours will smell you and know it’s you and that helps, a strangers baby knows Mom isn’t there and will be more upset

Youre better than me, I had never even changed a diaper or held a baby more than once or twice my entire life before having my first. I had NO HELL OF A CLUE what I was doing. I'm now expecting my 4th baby lol. You'll be fine! I breastfed my babies so I'd just make sure diaper was clean,  pop 'em on the boob and that resolved the fussing 75% of the time ;)

I learned with my first that something that doesnt work the first time may work 5’minutes later. Babies are unpredictable:)

I’m 27 weeks and can’t keep up with my 3 year old niece. My BIL (he’s a single dad) keeps saying we need practice. Umm, dealing with my own child as a newborn will completely different than being pregnant and watching his kid!!

You’ll learn as u go. You and baby don’t know each other right away. With time you will learn what ur baby likes and his routine.  It is so normal to catch urself not knowing what to do to calm ur baby in the beginning. My son had colic and cried for hours a day. There was nothing I could do (I obviously tried everything from gas drops to massage etc). Once he turned 3 months old his colic stopped and it made things so much easier. Anyways, u and baby will learn together :-)

she's only 2 months you have a different smell and feel they are use to the mothers feel and smell. your not going to fail everyone needs help at some point of time.

You’re not a failure, it is totally different with your own child than it is with someone else’s. You just know how to soothe your own child.. :)

Calming your own baby is TOTALLY different than someone else’s. Often, our babies just want their moms. Trust me - when it’s your own baby, you’ll generally know what to do - and if you don’t, you’ll figure it out!
