How do you start pumping?

This sounds stupid but everything I read says to pump while your baby is feeding from the bottle to keep up... well how do you start pumping because obviously I can’t pump if my baby is eating. He will eat from both breast because he’s a hungry hippo most feedings. 
Should I just wait a half hour or so after he’s fed and pump? And then I’ll start pumping when he feeds?

After your baby nurses pump. I’d say for about 10 min. 
For those of you who are like me and produce a crap ton. I nurse from one side and pump the other while feeding. But I know my baby gets enough from one breast bc I produce 5-6 oz per breast. 
When your baby starts cutting back their feedings pump rather than feed. Example. If they used to eat every 3 hours and start going 4-5 hours still pump at the 3 hour mark. Your breast will make enough milk for next feeding.
