What should i dress my baby in underneath this sleepbag? Its been getting about 40 degrees at night

40 degrees Outside you mean, right? What matters is the temperature Inside your house, not outside. I live in the north and it's been getting to negative 15 degrees at night outside. But inside it's about 70. So LO sleeps in a cotton sleeper and a cotton  sleepsack. I personally do not use fleece inside because I don't want LO to overheat.

I usually just do a onesie then the sleeper.

I would do just a long sleeve onesie and pants underneath it. But very thin stuff and socks. It’s -21 where I live right now but we keep our house at 70. LO still sleeps in a long sleeve onesie, pants, socks, fleece sleeper, and her fleece wearable blanket.

Use merino wool, it breaths and if she gets wet/sweat it keeps her warm, not cold and uncomfortable like fleece will.

Depends on baby. My 5 month old sweats like crazy when she sleeps. As do I. So she usually sleeps in just a diaper or onesie. I mean dripping sweat. Base it on your child. Every baby is different.

honestly I would say it depends on how much body heat your baby radiates. my kids always wore just a diaper under theirs.
