To go or not to go

My SO and I have been ttc for 7 months. I'm 45 with three children, the youngest is 10.  We have an appointment with a fertility doc, but are debating on keeping it.  My hesitation is that tests will show that it's going to be hard to get pregnant and that we will give up hope. It seems many women have had experienced where the MD has told them they won't get pregnant without medical intervention but they get pregnant anyway. Is it worth going?  I mean I already know my eggs are old and mostly stale.
