Midwife Experiences?

Question

I am currently pregnant with my second child. With my first I rotated between 3 doctors in my doctors office, and when it came time to deliver NONE of the 3 could make it and I was left with some on call doctor that I hated. 
I just met with a potential midwife and she seems super sweet. It would be lovely to have the same woman that has been with me throughout my pregnancy deliver me. It only makes me nervous that I just met her for the first time today (3 months in) as I was on a waiting list. 
I would love to hear anyone’s experiences with midwives.

Okay, so, with my first pregnancy I saw the same doctor throughout my whole entire pregnancy. He was great. I loved him. Nobody told me that there was a possibility that he wouldn't be the one to deliver my baby. I was devastated. I had to have some random midwife deliver my daughter. This time around I only see the midwife. I know she will be great delivering my son as she delivered my daughter as well and at least I know I won't be disappointed again!

I went with a midwife in a hospital and there were only 2 in the entire hospital. I loved my midwife, she was very laid back and never pushed anything onto me, I felt in control the entire time. When it came time to deliver the other midwife delivered and it wasn’t the “midwife” birth experience I thought it would be, but that’s just my experience. With our next I’ll be going the midwife route again 😁

If you're low-risk (no previous pregnancy complications, generally healthy, no previous caesarians etc.) then a midwife is totally a reasonable option. Licensing of midwives in the US is very sketchy though: consider a certified nurse midwife (CNM).
FWIW I found an OB who is just lovely, incredibly knowledgeable and supportive, and (from what I hear) a talented surgeon also (hopefully won't need that ;)). I've really enjoyed our visits and she's answered all of my questions. And the other doctors at the practice are great. It's too bad that the docs at your practice the first time couldn't deliver your kid!

I use a practice that includes 3 OBs and 6 midwives.  I use the midwives and deliver at the hospital where there is a back up OB on call in case the situation changes or there is an emergency.  While the midwives actually changed shifts on me mid-labor it was fine.  I had met them all during the pregnancy and loved every one of them.  The entire experience was 10tines better than my OB birth. They spent a bit more time with me than an OB and listened, etc.  I can’t imagine going anywhere else, but I can promise you, if I did, it would be to another midwifery group/1 midwife.

I have a midwife now ( due March).  She delivered my first baby too.  She’s so easy going, she doesn’t have that ego/smarty-pants thing that doctors can get.  She listens to me 109%, and never makes me feel like my opinions or thoughts are silly.   I wouldn’t trade her for the world.
