My mother is racist. I wish it would stop.

My mother on the surface seems like a happy go lucky person, but if you dig a little deeper or even end up seeing posts on her facebook, you will quickly realize she's an ignorant xenophobic bigot and racist. It sucks. I wish I could just make it stop. We were talking about ear piercing, just a normal conversation about how I want my daughter to enjoy the experience when she's older. My mother then states "oh you know what type of people get their ears done as babies". Then she mouths "black people". WTF. I quickly put her in her place and told her many different families choose to do that of differing races and cultures. I even brought up that 90% of the girls in my class in 1st grade had it done and a majority were white. These types of statements just roll out of her mouth casually. I never want my children to think that type of talk or thought is acceptable, it's disgusting. I cannot even fathom why she thinks it's okay to judge others like that. Argh!
