Do I wake baby?

My baby is 7w+5d and sleeps for long periods at night. Does the feed every 2-3 hour still apply? I usually just feed when he cries or if his fussiness wakes me up first.

Don’t wake him unless you notice he’s not gaining weight. This is hard because babies are naturally sleepy, but you should start getting periods where they will be wide awake. So if you notice your baby is just sleeping all of the time and is lethargic (won’t even stay awake to eat), then consult your pediatrician. But I say don’t wake a sleeping baby!! 👍 I nursed on demand with my son. I didn’t follow a schedule. If he cried, I nursed. That’s it. I don’t think there should be a strict rule book unless your baby is under nourished.

I believe that rule of thumb is for babies under two weeks of age. It’s just because it’s really important for them to gain weight during this time since most babies lose weight the first few days after delivery. My girl went from 7lbs at 2 weeks to 9.8lbs by 5 weeks. The ped said I can let her sleep without waking her up as she will make up for it when she gets up and her weight gain is good.
