deaf baby?

Mothers who have deaf children: when and how did you learn your baby was deaf? My son passed the hearing test when he was born, now 2 months later he doesn't respond to any type of sounds. I'm a FTM and can't get to the Dr until next week. I'm hoping he's just being stubborn and ignoring the sounds, but I'm worried he may be deaf.

They will do a repeat test, most likely a more in depth one that will work best when baby is asleep. My baby boy had severe hearing loss in both ears and wore hearing aids at 3 months old.

My son has moderate hearing loss and will need hearing aid devices. Even with his hearing loss he still responds to sounds. He had a refer result on his hearing tests since he was born though, so I'm not sure. Every baby is different but I would definitely mention it to your doctor so that they can set you up with an audiology referral. How old is your baby? Is he responding to sounds with sounds? Is he making audible vowel sounds? Babies with hearing loss will often do all of these things (like my son) but it's a good sign that he as least has some hearing! True profound deafness is rather uncommon so I wouldn't worry too much. As a mama with a baby with hearing loss, I always want to tell other mamas that it's nothing to be fearful of! The way the world is now, if there is a hearing problem it's likely that it can be managed or treated :) 
ps. the tubes connecting babies ears to sinus and nose are very inefficient at this age. Is it possible he is congested from a cold virus that recently passed?

The hearing tests they do on infants are non behavioral, that means a child does not have to respond in a particular way when they hear a sound (as it would be impossible). So, unfortunately there’s no way he can ignore the sound at 2 months old. But they can always do more testing.

hopefully he's just being stubborn and ignoring the noises. :) sending good vibes and prayers. no experience with deaf kids, but we have a kitten I was suspicious was deaf or hard of hearing. she wouldn't even turn her ears when you made noise sometimes. she's just super stubborn and has the ability to completely ignore you if she wants. 😂 she can hear a can of food being opened with no problem. only cat I've ever seen with selective hearing. 😂
