Is marriage necessary?

I’m not making this to get anyone angry or to start arguments, I’m just generally curious. What makes marriage your end goal? Why do you want to get married?

I’ve seen a lot of people in both my life and social media saying that marriage is something to expect or that marriage is useless. I’m on the fence. I think marriage comes with its perks but at the same time I don’t think it would be needed, I wouldn’t end things with my boyfriend if he never proposed; but that’s just me.

I’d like to know others’ opinion though. I’m not bashing marriage btw, I’m only curious to see what people have to say about the subject. You guys may even change my mind
