Low self confidence boyfriend

I’ve been with my boyfriend for almost a year, and he’s always had trouble with confidence. He has low self esteem and calls himself “fat and ugly” and other nasty things that aren’t true. He sometimes is so worried about his appearance that he gets nervous in the bedroom and can’t have sex. I’ve tried helping him, because I want him to feel good about himself. Every day I try to acknowledge how great he is, and how good he looks. Is there any way to help give him some confidence?
