Always! I had boy friends starting in pre-school. Most of my friends in high school were guys and we’d have sleepovers on weekends. It was fun and nothing ever happened. They were my friends.

Always! I think that it’s absolutely fine for someone to have friends of the opposite sex.

Any age. My parents never really cared, I had a guy bestfriend from before I started kindergarten even, and by the time we hit ninth grade we were having group sleep overs with girls and guys staying. Nothing wrong with it as long as you can trust the people.

I legit used to have sleepovers with my best friend who was a boy between the ages of 4 and 8. It wasn’t a big deal. We weren’t any more supervised than we would have been if we were both boys. We played in his room all the time or his playroom out of sight from his mom. When we went on vacations together we often shared a room or even a bed at those ages. Neither of us ever thought twice about it or did anything inappropriate with each other. We’re still friends to this day and have both married different people, never once were either us interested in dating each other.
It’s perfectly appropriate at young ages. When they are old enough to start being interested in each other then cut out the sleepovers. I still wouldn’t supervise them much until 12+. Just have a no closed doors in the house rule. 
Now if they are together, that’s different. I’d not let them in a bedroom alone, probably a movie in the living room type deal or something along those lines. Or just pop in here and there.
