Anxiety over Thunderstorms
For most of my life I lived in upstate NY and don't recall more than 1-E1 tornado.. tho there was probably more?? I loved thunderstorms, they always felt so peaceful and sleep was amazing. Now I live in TX and I am very very anxious over the weather Tomorrow and Wednesday. Every time I see the storm cloud on the weather my heart sinks. I'm totally afraid of tornados. I know how quick a storm can turn.. since the 1-E1 that struck less than a mile away in NY and we didn't get much warning and they weren't even sure it was a tornado until the next day..
So I've been feeling really anxious and I think my toddlers are picking it up, I try to ignore it, I try to keep it out of my mind, I try to calm myself by saying we'll be fine, but it's bad. All day I've been thinking of it. My house doesn't have a basement the "middle" of our house with no windows is a stairway and keeping 2 toddlers safe and still on a stairway doesn't feel possible. I don't feel as bad when my husband is home but he'll be at work all day tomorrow. We are having a storm at 3am ish and I can't help to be worried about my daughter sleeping in her room because the window is in direct path of her crib. Idk if there is something I can do to help calm my nerves, something I can drink? It may seem silly since I would have thought the same thing a few years ago but now it's become my reality.
Update: thanks ladies I live in Killeen (central TX) looks like the storm is mainly above me and just a few spots here and there so anxiety is way down and I'm actually looking forward to a little thunder so long as it don't get bad. I really don't have much of a plan but to run to the steps with babies and dogs following so maybe a small kit on the steps during stormy weather will help and a book! thanks again!
