Being induced at 39 weeks???

Question

So I'm 37weeks 1 day and I had an ultrasound and doctors appt today. My baby was weighing 7lbs 15ounces according to ultrasound and that's the 85th percentile. The doctor told me that he will induce me at 39 weeks if I want him to. I am so ready to have my baby and I'm scared about waiting past 39 weeks in fear that he'll be really big. What would you ladies do in this situation? Are any of you going to have an elective induction?

Every time I've heard of a doctor saying a child will be too big, based off an ultrasound, they have been totally wrong. The weight is truly a guess and can be off by 1 - 2 pounds!
It's really your choice if you want to go ahead with the induction - I can understand wanting to meet your little one ASAP - but I wouldn't worry about the size of the baby. Your body knows what to do no matter the size! Good luck!

I wouldn't get induced unless medically needed. I feel the baby will come when they are ready. I feel that some doctors plan to induce to make their lives easier not ours.

I've heard so many women talk about how terrible pitocin is so I would avoid it add long as possible!

I've agreed that I'll be induced at 41- although they normally wouldn't do that here (UK) until 42 unless there were medical reasons.

I was talking to a friend the other day who was induced at a midwifery with a mixture of blue and black cohosh. I know this is dangerous to do without a doctor or midwife so I would never try but it's worth asking. There are less side effects with cohosh than Pitocin. Btw I've had Pitocin with my first four pregnancies and I'd like to not have it this time.

They had me petrified with my first child that he would be at least 9 pounds! He was delicered at 38.5 weeks and was 7lbs, 14oz. You'll be fine! Don't stress! I did and it was all
Over nothing!
