Stay at home ... Dad?

Question

Any of you ladies ever downsize to keep him at home with the kids? How did it go? Does the relationship suffer? How do you help keep him sane? 
We’re thinking about keeping him home, since I’m the breadwinner and we REALLY want our son to have a parent with him at all times. Just trying to get some opinions or insight. All are welcome. :)

I'd love for my SO to be a stay at home dad! We don't have any littles yet but we've talked about that option since I'm also the breadwinner. I say go for it!! He can find ways to stay sane just like you could if you were home. He can go get dinner or drinks with his buddies for a couple hours, play in the garage or whatever his other toys are, and you guys can hang out as a family at night and the weekends!! ...(fyi just typing this post really kinda sealed the deal that I want my SO to be a SAHD! 😂)

My husband didn't last two weeks. He was much happier working. No since in having an unhappy parent at home.

hell no. I love my husband, but most men arnt meant to stay home with kids.  my husband is defiantly one of them lol. hes a great dad but he would go crazy staying home woth them

If it’s financially feasible could your family consider a part time nanny to help out. If your partner needs a break?

Interested to hear from people with experience in this regard. The plan all along for us has been for my husband to be SAHM dad because I am the breadwinner. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t have some anxiety about it; what if he can’t handle it? What if I feel like he doesn’t do a good job? What if I can’t handle the stresses of being the financial supporter? What if I lose my job? What if it eats me up to be the one away from my children? What if it strains our relationship? What if my work schedule makes me a bad mom? So many questions and not a ton of societal support in the structure. I know he’s gonna catch shit for it. He already catches shit for our earning power disparity and I know it will be the same with him staying home to rear children. Blergh trying to trust the universe and hoping it will be okay. Not even pregnant yet so cross that bridge when I get to it I guess. 🤷‍♀️

We had actually planned for my husband to be a sahd but then he went and joined the Navy 🙄 🤣🤣 I ended up being the one to stay home and a few times when I had to go out of state or in the hospital for a week or so he said he couldn't wait for me to get back and that he didn't know how I handled it all. There are a few sahd in my area and they seem to really love it. I think as long as he knows what it entails (men don't think of the everything like women do imo) and wants to do it, why not. I feel it's great and beneficial if any parent can stay home.

I've thought about it myself, if I went back to work I would  at least let him work a couple of days out the week, for when I have my days off.

I think that’s great if you two are comfortable with it. :)
The only thing I’ve read about stay at home dads (from the moms) is that the wives start to lose respect for their husbands because they end up not pulling their weight around the home and because they’re not contributing in any way. 
That’s not to say stay at home dads cant be or aren’t the best stay at home dads in the world. It depends on the family, and the relationship between you two. :) I’ve heard success stories as well, so it will go in the direction you and your husband will take it
