My son broke my heart

I was watching a movie in bed with my 22mo son (bridge to terabithia) and the movie brought me to tears as it always has. My son grabbed my chin and tried to leave kisses to cheer me up and when I kept sniffling he himself started to softly cry...I know he’s very smart and picks up on emotions but I have never seen him feel emotions like this nor have I seen him cry in this soft and sincere manner before...it broke my heart he wouldn’t let go of me for a solid 30 minutes after the movie ended... has anyone experienced this kind of connection with a child under 2 before??
