Nursing and pumping

Elizabeth

My son cluster fed so often and for such long periods of time in the first week that he has chapped, scabbed, and changed the shape of my left nipple. It hurts so bad to nurse on that side now that I’ve started to only feed on my right and pump on my left. When I pump I produce 2oz in 10 minutes and he feeds for 10-15 minutes on 1 side. I know he’s getting plenty of milk, he’s consistently milk drunk after, I just want to make sure that i won’t mess up my production by only feeding on the right and pumping on the left until hopefully my nipple is fully healed.

Any other mama’s have this problem or have suggestions? I’m using nipple shields and organic butter between feedings but it hasn’t made a difference at this point. The left is just not the same right now :-(
