yikes. always double check and trust your gut
went to the doctor today for suspected ear infection. we can get a script for antibiotics in a couple of days if she's still hurting but in the meantime, the doctor (not our usual pediatrician) recommended children's benadryl. I said I wasn't sure I could give that since she's only 16mo and the Dr said she'd just have to dose by weight. she's only 20.5lb. the doctor said "10 milliGRAMS every 6 hr as needed" and of course my mind is slightly fuzzy in the office so I didn't catch it at first until I was mulling it over on our way to the car. first of all, liquid medicine is measured by milliLITERS not mg! secondly, 10ml would be the dose for a child twice her weight! 😲 I'm glad my spidey senses caught that before just giving her over 2x the correct dose! I would call back to mention it if I remembered the doctor's name. If we end up having to call for the antibiotics, I'll be bringing it up then for sure.
