Does he like me or nope?

About a year ago I became friends with a guy and we had a very odd friendship. At the beginning of our new friendship we were both very hesitant to start conversation. Slowly we began to talk more but only in lessons and things to do with sport. Recently we occasionally began to meet up to play sport together than grab a burger or something but when I see him around he only smiles slightly and waves. He doesn’t tend to start conversation but he has offered to hang out a few times before(as have I) But due to him being quite hesitant to speak to me I wonder does he like me as a general person/friend or not? Do I get to OTT or nah?
