Are we together?

I met this guy back in October once, we kept in contact when he left for a job across the country. A few months ago he came back to my college time being transferred back. We reconnected right away. We go out to eat all the time, I sleep over all the time. Sometimes weeks at a time. I met some of his friends, hung out with them. One night he told me his roommates really love me. Recently we're apart because I'm not at school in the town he lives, but we've made plans for me to come down (only a few hours away), he tells me he misses me a lot. When I come back in August he wants me to help pick out a dog! But we're not together we met to sleep together. We briefly discussed it and said before our relationship was just meant for sex. But now he's not sure and lets wait until I come back in August. Is this like a relationship, and could it work?
