Why did this happen?

I handed my resume in at Tim Horton's and they called me yesterday but I missed it so I called them back but the person wasn't there so I called them this morning and the women said that she hasn't called me which is a lie since I have a voicemail off of her. And then she said she was going to call me today to tell me my hours of availability won't work.
Do employers ever just call to say they won't hire you? And do thy lie about calling?

Just look for work elsewhere.

She might have called the wrong person in the first place. It can get confusing when looking at resume and applications. She also could have called you thinking it could work and after a second review thought it might not. They could have also decided to go with someone between calling you and you calling back. It's tough right now, just look as it as not meant to be and look somewhere else.
