housing benefit

this is a long shot and struggling to find the correct information and the council seem to be no help. anyone from london and know anything about housing benefit. me and my oartner recently found out that we was overpaying on our rent due to a mistake from hmrc and housing benefit anyways we are oughed a grand by housing benefit but for some reason they have paied our lanldlord the money rather then us and he isnt entitled to it. they said we have to ask the landlord to pay it back to us but he is refusing council have said they will not involved them selves as its a matter between us.. anyway i can get our money back or any routes i can take to make him give the money back baby on the way in 3 weeks and this money would do us the world of good.. 😞😞😞😤 feeling rather stressed. thanks in advance have no idea where to post this post so sorry in advanced
