Sexist? Or does this prove a point?

This morning on my commute to work, I heard on the radio about a bar in DC which is charging women .77 cents on the Dollar for every drink they purchase. There reason they said is to compensate for the fact that women working the same jobs as men only make 70% of the salary men make. I found this interesting, and I know my opinion, but I really am interested in seeing more opinions on this topic. Thanks!!

It's a publicity stunt for the bar and through a point that woman still make $.77 on the dollar. 
I find it interesting that people are taking issue with this and calling it sexist, but will make all kind of excuses why men "deserve" to make more than women with the same qualifications.

The only reason there is a wage gap is because women go into jobs that make less money. Men generally are better at math, science and computers so they go into jobs that pay well for there skills. Women usually become nurses, teachers, ect. And get paid a little less. If a woman became an engineer or scientist, she would make just as much as a man with the same job.

I'm hearing lots of comments in this thread saying if women went into different fields they would make more money than men. I'd like to challenge those that say that to consider why it's that way in the first place.

Could it be that boys are taught and encouraged in math and science (the basics of many high earning fields) in a way girls are not? Could it be that we value work traditionally done by women such as teaching, social services, and nursing less than we do traditional men's work?

As it's been pointed out that number really only applies to white women. Could it possibly be because of education disparity? The lowest paid group are Hispanic women. What other factors could contribute except that she's too lazy to go to college? One reason is that unless you're fully documented you can't get any assistance with tuition.

There's simply more to the story than that all women want low paying jobs.

I think it's them trying to prove a point but to go the whole way they should charge according to ethnicity as well and gender.

As long as it's only until the equal pay laws are enforced and we start making real changes in the way our society raises girls in terms of goals etc. (as well as minorities) then I think it's a good idea. Is it fair to make the guys pay more? Hell no, but it's also extremely unfair that even with the equal pay law a lot of women are not paid the same as males in the same job with the same qualifications.

It's actually been proven otherwise. We make the same.
More men are in the careers that make more money on average (computer science, engineering, etc). So that averages out to show that men make more because of the amount in the field versus women, who are so few.
Honestly, if there were more women in the fields, it would look better on their averages. Not every company pays the same.
Maybe if women wanted to make more money, they would go for those jobs and not creative writing, home economics, art or music.
(FYI, I have a music degree, but I'm also in the Marines in the band--equal pay and I get to use my degree!)

Of course it's a marketing tool....it IS a business. I'm talking outside of that. Because some people think it was sexist and unfair to men. Or they thought that it made women look needy etc.

It's all about getting people in the doors and spending money. That's why bars have ladies nights. If ladies drink free, or certain things free, more will go, therefore more men will go, and more money will be spent.
