The media and government are just as tied into this society as any other entity and this country has a racist foundation - period.  Any changes that will, or will not occur have to begin with the people.

However, for that to happen there has to be an admission of the issue(s) to begin with. Therein lies the problem.  I don't agree with bashing anyone based on something inherent that they can't control, and I'm equally disgusted with the article and MTV networks for more "fluff" shows.

I think a lot more insight could be absorbed by watching the documented experiments of Jane Elliott, for instance.  She's brilliant and gets to the heart of the matter.

How can anyone support a show that shames people for their race? Like I don't get enough shit for being white, now they have tv shows about how terrible white people are? Great...

I don't like the way the author of this article tackled the material. The author was very biased and very rude. 
With that being said, I'm interested in seeing this show. From what I've seen of the commercials, I'm not sure if it's white guilt tripping, or making white people aware of white privilege. Either way, you can't make a few individuals carry the weight of the mistakes that their race has made. I feel like a better idea would be to discuss why people of color feel uncomfortable discussing race and racism with white people. Maybe they will touch on that, maybe they won't .
And I do agree somewhat that the media likes to push a racist agenda in how they report race related issues, however the only reason why the media is successful in doing this is because there is still a racist environment for this tactic to still be effective. Not talking about racism won't make it go away, and guilt tripping different people is only going to breed more hate. The only way to end racism is to talk openly and honestly about race relations and why interacting with people of different race or ethnicity from yourself makes you feel a certain way. The talks will be painful and uncomfortable, and hurtful things will be said, but that's the only way to really get it done.

I think white people should definitely be aware of the often times devastating role their race has played in American history but that being said, I don't think anyone should be shamed for the actions of their ancestors. That's like telling the son of a serial killer that he should be judged based on what his father did. We can't change the past, all we can do is realize the mistakes our predisposes made and strive to not make the same ones in the future. I've never seen this documentary so all I can say about it is what I've heard and read so maybe I should check it out because to me it seems pretty interesting.
