Second chance for my abuser?

My father abused me my entire childhood on up until I was 15. He would beat me nearly every day until I couldn’t walk because of the pain and bruising. My mother was in college and had been working night shifts at a hospital so she had no idea what was happening at home until one day she walked in on me changing and saw the bruises. She immediately left him (she thought he only hit her) and he moved a state away.

I have 2 younger sisters that absolutely adore him because they were too young to remember what he did to me. They visit him often and invite him to their family events.

I’m currently 24 and have not spoken to him in several years. My husband and I are expecting our first child soon and my family (including mother & husband) are trying to involve him in MY pregnancy and MY child’s life. I have told them numerous times that I want nothing to do with him and would never allow him near me or my children. They claim he has changed and that I should give him a second chance and my baby NEEDS it’s grandfather in it’s life. It doesn’t need an abusive alcoholic grandfather.

*My younger sister is also pregnant and has involved him in everything. His side of the family has planned a baby shower for both of us and are pissed because I told them that I’m not going. (His family thinks he walks on water and I was just a spoiled brat, they don’t know what he did).

My entire pregnancy has already been stressful and my family pushing him on me is not helping. Of course they say I’m the one being unreasonable because I refuse to forgive him for the nightmare he put me through.

If you’ve hung through this long rant, what would you do in this situation? Forgive him and give him a second chance? Continue to pretend he does not exist.

*I have posted anon because of others I know that use this app.
