I love him but is he marrying material....

I love my boyfriend so god damn much but we have been apart for 2 months now due to summer break and I miss him so much. We have barely talk this summer due to work schedules being so off from each other’s. All the sudden he texted me saying he wants to joint the army with out talking about it with me to see how everything will work. Over this summer I became real close with an old friend from when I was a kid. Now im confused because my boyfriend went on camping trip and is texting my best friend but not replying to me... it’s hard because I’m graduating this year and he is too and we both are doing very different things very far away from each other. What do I do
