Breakup, Wish im dead

I was best friend with my now ex boyfriend for 3 years, but this summer (20.6.) we were on a school trip for a week. We were hanging out really a lot and it was more than just friends but we didnt kiss there. After that, he broke ups with his girlfriend officially and finally ( they broke up even before that trip but they were talking to each other still somehow-it was a tocic relationship) and then we decided that we should try. We tried a month later. To be exact 20.7. And we saw each other only 2 times because I wasnt in town and now je isnt in town. 3 days ago, after only 2,5 weeks of relationship he told me that he loves me just as a friend and cant love me like tru love. I was speechless. He was the only person i ever loved and believed that much because we were everything to eachother for a long time. Im not sure if the distance did that make him feel or friends that were with him there or myb that ex gf or myb one friend that we hang out with that is in love with me. Also, we will see each other when he comes back (in 1 day) but when he broke up w me he told me friendship advice. “ I really think you should give an opportunity to our friend ‘cause he loves you so much” IS IT POSSIBLE THAT HE BROKE UP W ME BECAUSE OF HIM? Im devastated. Please help me. And is it ok to stay bestie w him still? We are in the same class 7 hours a day one more year... 😢
