Fluid on kidneys?

Question

Just finished my anatomy scan - the tech said they would need to follow up (probably at 28w) because she found fluid on the kidneys.  Anyone have a similar experience?  What might this indicate?  My dr is doing a c-section now so I have to come back to see him to discuss the US in a few hours.  Feeling a little uneasy.  Thank you.

My baby has fluid on his left kidney and my doctor said it should go away by my 30 week ultrasound or by birth. He said majority of boys actually have it and it almost always corrects itself. My friend has 3 boys and they all had it and it went away by birth. I'm 28 weeks. I wouldn't worry girl 😀

My cousin was told her son had fluid on the brain and they actually induced her at like 32 weeks. Her baby was born fine. I think the ultrasounds have gotten so good that sometimes they pick up too much. Of course it's good not to be naive about it but I definitely think sometimes it's nothing.

Natalie!!! I found you! Congrats on your rainbow ☺️☺️ so happy for you! I was browsing posts as I am back on Glow instead of Nurture. I didn't really use the Nurture community while pregnant. Not to turn this into a depressing thread, but I wanted to let you know that we lost our little boy Owen at 22 weeks back in June, hence why I'm back. At our 20w3d anatomy scan, he was diagnosed with a heart defect and an amniocentesis confirmed fatal chromosomal abnormalities. His little heart stopped and he gained his beautiful angel wings at 22w1d. We are devastated and miss him so much. It has been an absolutely heartbreaking 1.5 months. But we have decided to continue on our TTC journey to start our family. Doc cleared us after first AF to start trying again. I finally started AF 5.5 weeks after our loss. I am CD3 right now.

Have you gotten anymore updates on your little one? I personally know how scary it is when they find things on the anatomy scan. But if fluid on the kidneys is all they found, then it probably is just random. It is common for male pregnancies. I'm keeping you in my prayers that everything is totally normal! Please send an update, I'd love to hear about your pregnancy thus far. Congrats again!

Hi Gabby, I was glad to see your name on my notification page, but my heart is broken for you.  I read your post yesterday but had to
process (and of course, it's always so difficult to find any words of comfort - something I know I simply don't have for you) - I just can't believe it.  I'm so very sorry that you and your family had to suffer such great loss.  I am glad that you were able to carry your little Owen during his life - that he felt your love, warmth, and was always safe and comfortable with you.  I am glad that you have support from your doctors to try again, and that they are working closely with you.  I pray that you find strength to grieve and healing to keep going.  I pray that you have your sweet rainbow - healthy and strong and in your arms - soon.  I will be thinking of you and your earth family, and your heavenly family, too - your sweet little Owen - as you continue to journey.  I will pray pray pray for all of you!  I wish I could hug you tight my friend, but please know that I am thinking of you and praying!

As for my little one, my dr said that the fluid is sometimes a flag for chromosomal abnormalities, but is more often nothing - he even said it could just mean the baby is "well hydrated."  Thankfully, there were no other flags, so I'm hopeful that it's nothing.  They are just keeping an eye on it for now.  I have another ultrasound scheduled for 28w.

My own family dr said his boy had extra kidney fluid in utero (my mom is his nurse & we are close, I was at his cookout this weekend) - his boy has had a few corrective surgeries but is otherwise healthy.  We did not find out the sex of our baby, but now my boy hunch is even stronger!  We will see.  Keep in touch, you're in my prayers.
