“Your money is our money”?

Ladies what are your thoughts on this?? When you get married does the whole “what’s yours is mine and what mine is yours” come in to play? How would you react to this if your S.O. told you this?

Of course mine and my husbands money is the same. We put all our money into one account. There is no “his money” “my money” bull shit. It’s OUR MONEY. 
That being said if he goes behind my back and tells his parents we will help buy them a fucking house...we’re gonna have some big problems 🤔

Yes it's a shared income but both need to agree on what to spend it on. He's already making decisions without her I wouldn't go through with the marriage...unless she puts her foot down and he actually listens.

My husband and I have our own accounts then a joint account to pay shared bills. We basically split everything. He makes more than me so some bills he pays more than I do though. Any big purchase we have to agree on. I would say absolutely not to helping buy his parents a house. I wouldn’t marry him.

I think that each couple needs to agree on this prior to getting married, and that in this case he should have talked to her first before assuming she would be alright with it. I personally am very selfish with my money and prefer to pay bills half and hlf, vs. just combining all of our money and using it to pay bills, so this would hve infuriated me.

I think this is a bit of a slippery slope. I’m not married but I do feel that a married couple should have a joint account. However, I also think that you should also still have your own separate accounts. My parents have a joint account for important/family finances (the house, health expenses, insurance, family vacations, etc.), but they still have their own money for more superficial purchases. I don’t know exactly how they work it out but I do know that they’re always 110% honest about things and their marriage is going on 37 years strong. Maybe have a serious talk about how you want money to play a role in your marriage and see if you can reach a compromise.

In marriage you share. However, you also share respect. The guy in that post sounds entitled and just assumed you would be fine with YOUR salary supporting his family without even a discussion. That would be a hugeeee issue for me. Get a prenup.
