Opinions on piercings for minors?

My step daughter is 17, she wants the cartilage on her ear pierced. I’ve been calling around and I few places won’t do it until she’s 18. I don’t know much about the community, but do you think it’s wrong to let a 17 year old do this?

I think 17 is actually a really reasonable age for something like a cartridge piercing. And bonus points for her asking and not doing it the old fashioned way in the bathroom. I would look up your local area's laws to see if legal guardians can sign off for them. If not she'll just have to wait until she's 18 and can herself.

Nope. She is old enough to clean it and be responsible  people pierce their babies ears which in my opinion is worse than a 17yr old.

Typically a parent just has to sign for a minor. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with a 17 year old getting a cartilage piercing

Totally ok for a 17 year old. Some Piercing establishments just don’t pierce minors. I know, at least in California (where I am), it is more expensive for shops to piece minors. It requires additional insurance, etc. so some shops opt not to do it. BUT that doesn’t mean it’s not ok... its just not something every shop is licensed for.

I had SEVERAL facial piercings before I even turned 18. A cartilage piercing is incredibly reasonable for a 17 year old.

Umm I’ve had my cartilage pierced since i was like 12. And I had like 2 or 3 by 13/14 . Never had an issue of needing to be 18.

What the heck? Cartilage is one of the most basic piercings out there, so why can’t they do it on a 17 y/o? I remember having friends as far back as middle school with cartilage piercings!

It’s 100% that the area or state you’re in doesn’t allow piercings or tattoos under 18, even with parental consent. However, I got my nose pierced a few days before turning 16, and two cartilage piercings about a month ago after turning 18. Piercing the nose is similar to an ear piercing. Never got infected or had any complications, so I personally don’t see the issue with it.
