Any advice for 2nd time mom?

Lindsey

With my first child I wanted and tried to nurse her since day one. There were a few complications which caused a (as I call it) “no milk” supply. The lactation consultant said there was milk there but my baby wasn’t getting any and nothing came out when I’d sit for 10-20 min and pump... nothing! Other factors were that I spiked a fever (104) less then a week after giving birth (kidney infection), my husband deployed two weeks after our daughter was born so I was on my own, I had a very long induced labor (36 hours)... I was trying my best. Things I tried were power pumping, nipple shield, brewers yeast (gross), lactation pills... but I just wasn’t producing anything. I probably got one ounce the whole month I tried. I know one month is not a long time to try but she was basically on formula for all her feedings.

So what is the best advice anyone can give me I want to try again... and be better. I’m currently 13 weeks pregnant with our second child. Things I want to try to be better at that I noticed I didn’t do well before are 1) drink WAY more water 2) eat more and 3) pump more at night. Like I said I was in survival mood with my husband being gone and he will be here for this baby so I’ll have more help!! Thanks in advance!
