Is it better to wake your baby to change a diaper or wait for them to wake up first?

The only way I ever woke my daughter up to change her diaper is if there was a visible leak or blowout. Diapers are designed to pull moisture away from their skin so I don’t feel it’s necessary to wake them up.

I feel I have misworded myself: my daughter is a newborn, if I change her diaper while she's sleeping- she will wake up regardless. If I let her sleep with a dirty diaper, we've got really bad diaper rash on our hands. Should I change her even though she's asleep? Or wait for her to wake on her own and treat the rash accordingly?

My son screams bloody murder if I change him too soon after he wakes up. I would not wake him to change. He will happily sit in a pile of poo and never complain though haha

I never woke my daughter up for anything including to eat. She always let me know when she was hungry and she always got a diaper change when she woke up. I used a&d preventive. She NEVER had diaper rash. Potty trained by 1 year old. *including through the night* preventive will keep it from sticking right to the bum && also baby soap and warm water does wonders!!

You definitely don’t have to wake your baby just to change them. If the diaper is wet while they’re sleeping in the night, change it. If they wake it shouldn’t take long for them to get back to sleep.

Never wake a sleeping baby. I use Huggies Overnights for my daughter who is a tummy sleeper and sleeps 11 hours in a row every night. No leaks and no problems with diaper rash.
