Potty training boys: what made it easier for you?

Question

I need all the tips I can get on potty training my three year old,
Do you dump Pull Ups completely, even at bed time. Or do you use them?
Would it be easier to use a potty chair made for toddlers or just the regular toilet?
When did you start taking him to town in his big boy undies?
How did you get them to understand the importance of telling you when they needed to go.
Also he goes to his Dads for a few hours every other weekend and I was wondering how I could go about that. Sadly he doesn’t take this stuff as seriously as I do so I’m worried it will set him back if we don’t keep it up on both sides and not just when he’s with me.

So my son isn’t old enough to potty train but I just potty trained my daughter and she’s 2 1/2. So what I did was let her run around naked for a few days. And for those few days I spent at home. I would literally ask her every 15mins if she has to go pee pee. I would also leave the little toilet close by her so she could see it and sit on it if she needed to go. I have her plenty of drinks,so she would to go more and understand the concept of going pee in the toilet. Every time she would go pee I would make a huge deal about it so she felt good about going pee in the potty. Once she started getting the hang of it I went straight to underwear. The only time she ever wears diapers or pull ups is at night. And most of the time she doesn’t even wet it.

We did day and night training seperatly. During day training and for like 2 months after we did a pull up at night but never did one during the day. I picked a 3 day stretch where we didnt have to go anywhere to start.  I also got him some paw patrol undies (his fave show) and talked about not peeing on marshall 🤣
Day 1 he went around in undies and a tshirt. I set a timer for every 30 minutes (or shorter if he just ate/drank) and when the alarm went off he had to try the potty. If he went he got 1 M&M. By the end of the day he was asking to go and excited to try for the M&M. (4 accidents day 1)
Day 2 he was still in his undies and tshirt. This day I just asked him if he needed to go every 30 minutes or so but didnt make him try if he said no. By the middle of the day he was mostly asking on his own. He still got the MM if he went on the potty. After one of his bigger pees we put on pants and went for a 10 minute walk and talked about not going potty in his undies. He went on the potty again as soon as we got back for an M&M. (2 accidents day 2)
Day 3 in undies. I would only ask if he had to potty if he hadent gone in a while. Still got an M&M. We went on a quick outing to the gas station (he had to pee right before and after going out). (One accident day 3)
After that we went about life as if he was potty trained. He gradually started only getting an MM if he went all day without an accident and then not at all. After the first 3 days he would maybe have an accident every other day for the first 2 weeks and then he was for all intensive purposes daytime potty trained. He had a small regression when I went back to work after having baby 2 but it only lasted a week and he hasn't had an accident since. We didnt do night training till he was without an accident for a couple months...And we just jumped right in. Took a few weeks and a lot of washed sheets but were 4 weeks without an accident and hes 2.5 years old!

You just gotta make it fun, which is really easy with boys lol.

We had something similar to this when we were potty training my son and he got the hang of it really fast. And getting him to go in the “big boy potty” wasn’t hard once he got used to this. 
Honestly just put him in big boy undies for a couple hours everyday, and keep asking him if he needs to potty. If he has an accident don’t make a big deal about it, just show him that with “big boy undies” if you don’t go to the potty you get covered in pee and have to clean up. 
Once he starts going in the potty make a big deal about it, give him rewards like candy or ice cream, stickers, just something. It will encourage him to keep doing it. 
For awhile he still wore pull ups when we went, just in case but still make a point to ask every so often. For bed time we still did pull ups for a couple months but we cut liquids off like an hour before bed and we made sure he went and peed before bed. If he woke up in the middle of the night I’d get him a drink and then make him go pee in the potty. 
As for his dad, yes it’s important y’all be on the same page cause it can cause confusion. My niece had a real hard time with potty training because my sister was actively trying to teach her but her ex still had her running around in diapers (not pull ups)
