Toddlers and makeup

So I don't agree with children wearing makeup or at least adult makeup to say. Today my mom was with my 4 year old daughter and painted her nails no big deal at all. But without asking me put makeup on her like eyeliner, blush, lipstick and maskera (I spelled it wrong sorry). So I just voiced my concerns I wasn't mad at her I just don't approve of that because I didn't think it was age appropriate at all. She told me she used to do it to us and got offended really fast and took it to heart. I like that she is bonding with her I don't mind that she does her hair and does her nails. I just think for my kids at 4 it's inappropriate and she got very upset. She was actually very rude about it but I was not ever mean about the situation. Was I in the wrong about it? I just don't want her to think she needs makeup and everything. She is stunning without it.
