Is my 11-month-old having tantrums?

Shae • Happily married and mama to Ronan, Freyja and Scotti. 💞

My son will be a year old in a few days. I love him but the last week or so he has been a holy terror. Every time he wants something he can’t have he screams and cries for ages. It seems like the more attention we give him the worse he cries unless we distract him with a toy or a snack or the TV. Today it was my coffee cup. He kept reaching for it so I set it out of his reach and offered him his cup with milk. He wailed for a few minutes and I held him, then he stopped and started pointing at the coffee cup on the shelf. When I wouldn’t give it to him he resumed crying inconsolably and I finally just set him down and sat nearby while he cried and he pretty quickly stopped wailing and started playing when he saw I was ignoring him. I didn’t think they were really capable of throwing tantrums at his age, but given that he was fed and changed and well-rested and it seemed to be a reaction to not getting his way I’m thinking that’s what it was... any thoughts?
