Should someone’s political view affect your relationship?

I was talking to my friends last night about politics and they all told me they didn’t really care bc it doesn’t affect them. One of my friends even said “those problems are gonna be fixed in the next lifetime”. So I asked what they thought about current events, and I found out that my friends all very conservative. I didn’t know what do, these are supposed to be my close friends and they’re literally against everything I stand for. I’m an immigrant, and most of the things going on affect me personally since I have DACA. What do you guys think? What should I do?

Conservatives don’t give a shit about living people’s lives.  They literally are okay with children starving and people being murdered because they “didn’t come here legally”. Women should be forced to have babies they don’t want or can’t keep, then work 24/7 because “welfare makes people lazy”

We can’t even take care of the homeless starving children in OUR OWN FREAKING COUNTRY!!! How could we possibly take care of THOUSANDS more from another country????? I’m all for foreign aid. If this was China demanding to be let in we would have a war. Why is it any different for these people???

Tell them how you feel. Sometimes having those issues that seem to be soo far away sitting right in your face tends to change people’s perspectives. If that doesn’t work I’d personally (and have before) end the friendships. Certain things aren’t up for debate and basic human decency and rights are not.

Do what you’re comfortable with, people usually associate with those with similar values and views. Maybe branch out and meet new people.

I couldn't be friends with people who hold differing in areas I consider crucial.
For example: are racist or Neonazi (I'm German), are pro forced birth or gold other misogynistic views ("belong in the kitchen").

I don’t openly discuss my political views with others, so for me, this wouldn’t be an issue because I wouldn’t let it be one. My husband and I discussed our political beliefs before we got married, and my family knows my stance on most issues, but that’s it.

If they are your friends they will at least respect differences in opinion and agree to disagree sometimes. Maybe what your going through will open their eyes as to how immigration issues effect everyday people in their lives.

If they’re actually your friends but you’re just now finding out their political views then y’all must not talk politics often, you can either keep that up (just don’t talk about politics) or use it as an opportunity to respectfully discuss today’s issues and have an open, honest conversation without name calling or making general assumptions. You don’t have to agree with or like everything people say to be friends with them.
