Did he cheat?

Hi all
Right me and my partner have been having a VERY rocky relationship since I had my daughter (September 2018). We did have a short break in November just after my grandfather passed but we seemed to be sorting things out.
My mental health has again declined and my partner said he can no longer be an emotional punch bag for me and he wants to call it quits. However it then surfaced that during our split he slept with somebody else. He said he doesn’t remember much of it and he really does regret it but where does this leave me?
I want to sort things out and get back on track as I love him more than anything but I can’t stop picturing things😪
Will it get easier and will I get over it or will this have my head completely fucked?

Honestly hon, it doesn't sound like you're healthy enough to work through this and get this relationship back on track. Your partner shouldn't ever feel like a punching bag. Period.
Also, if you were on a break then you were on a break. A break is literally the opposite of commitment so I don't know why you'd expect him to stay committed during a time you took a break from your commitment..
Imo you probably need to take the time to work on your relationship with yourself and get that back on track. Until that's sorted you will not be able to get this relationship back on track. you can't build a healthy, successful relationship with anyone else if you don't have one with yourself first.  Your relationship with yourself will dictate your relationship with others. Get your mental health in check before attempting to build a relationship with someone else.

He absolutely cheated. He had sex with someone else while you two were going through things, it doesn’t matter if he remembers details he still cheated. I know it doesn’t make it any easier especially hearing it put that way. Hold your head up high and do what is best for you girl! ♥️

No. If you guys were split up or on a break that doesnt make it cheating as you were not together. You cant split up and expect to still be in control.

I mean y'all weren't together so no. But you have to decide if you're willing to let it go or not. My then boyfriend now husband was with someone when we broke up for 2 months (as was I, but not as seriously as his was) and I had a hard time getting over it for literally a year or so. We got through things obviously, but I had to be willing to let it go mentally for my own sake, and that took a lot of work. If you want to, then make the effort if you believe he is truly regretful and worth your time💕

Before a “break” you should make rules for situations like this. If y’all are married he cheated. If not then it’s yalls terms. If you want to be with him y’all maybe need counseling. You can’t accept him back and hold the “cheating” over his head. You’re the only person that will know if you can move past him sleeping with someone else.

There's a grey area, to me it's not exactly cheating but it's still something that will affect and upset you. Because of that, how you proceed next depends on whether you are able to move past this after a while or not. 
It won't happen overnight and your partner should be aware of this - it's not about placing blame, it's about the emotional strain. 
I've been where you are, we were only dating for 6 months but already living together for 5, when we broke up we were both sure we weren't a good match but the break (considered breakup at the time) made us realize how we felt. He met with someone else, I don't think it's cheating since he didn't owe me anything but it still hurt. I knew our relationship wouldn't last if I couldn't get over it so I did but I never hid my feelings and kept an open communication. Currently 10 years together, 4 married and expecting our first baby in a week :)

It’s a betrayal. If you’re anything like me you will never let that go. But you can most definitely move forward. I can’t let go of the fact that I didn’t catch it earlier, not so much the fact that I “loved him” or anything. I’m just stubborn. But here it seems like he was trying to escape for a while and he didn’t control himself because he doesn’t respect himself OR you. Because if he had some respect or self awareness he would have talked about this before fucking up so bad. At least leave instead of cheating behind the scenes.

There are red flags all over this. Rocky relationship, sleeping with another woman, says he doesn't remember details (I call bs here. He just doesn't want to tell you details.) Emotional punching bag. 
It sounds like you both would have a lot of hard work to do to try to make this work. From what you've written it sounds like he's not willing to put forth the effort. HeHeSox s doesn't like how you treat him. You don't like how he's treated the relationship. So it's pointless to hang on.
