How big are IUD strings?

I got the copper IUD fitted this morning and I've just checked to see if the strings are still in place and I'm not sure if I feel them or not. I feel *something* kinda string like but it's tiny- is that it? 🙈

Yes. I never even checked my strings when I had it. If I ever had any concerns, I’d just go in to my obgyn or call them, but my strings were always in place. My boyfriend could always feel them even with a condom, though it wasn’t as bad with a condom and I bled all the time, so I just was over it pretty fast. Like I went in because he said he could feel them and my obgyn had originally said he wouldn’t be able to and I went in and everything was fine and then again he could feel them and he’d literally get little bruises on the tip from hitting the strings because they aren’t super soft. So if that happens and you can’t feel that he’s hitting them, use a condom so it didn’t bother him. I got mine trimmed twice, as much as I could have them trimmed and he could still always feel them because paragard is the largest iud and well it’s one size fits all, so it may not happen for you idk. Even with Mirena which is significantly smaller than the copper one he could feel the strings sometimes.

They are super thin almost like fishing line.  If you feel “something” it’s probably them.  Some docs leave the strings longer than others so you may only feel the very end of them.
