Underweight?

My son is going to be a 1 year old this Friday. He’s weighing in at 17 lbs and a few ounces...he also looks very small compared to other 1 year olds. Should I be worried? He’s not walking or really talking either. He says some vowels and words like dada or mama but he saying them like he’s just making sounds. He eats snacks throughout the day as well as baby food mixed with rice or oatmeal. I don’t know what else to do. His pediatrician doesn’t seem too worried about it.

They should weigh about 3x their birth weight at 1 year. Is he close to that?

He weighed 8lbs and 13 oz at birth at 19 inches long. He’s now weighing in around 17lbs and 6 oz and 27.5 inches long. He’s taking a few steps on his own every now and again. And he drinks juice or water from a sippy during the day, at night its breastmilk.

My 20 month old was 18 lbs at her 18 month appointment. If you're worried, make him some peanut butter smoothies :)

I wouldn’t worry really every baby grows different my baby was very tiny and she’s more than 3x her weigh when she was born so it can be a big baby turns into a little baby and the opposite. As long as he eats enough he’s okay. And ask ur doctor about vitamins as well if you’re thinking he’s not having enough food during the day.

Ah that’s weird.. our son was 5lbs 12oz at birth, so naturally he’s already a small baby. What’s happened over these past 10 months is he’s grown taller and at one of his visits with the doc he was 18.6 lbs and then this recent visit he was taller and weighed in at 16.9. The doctor freaks out and says it’s a dramatic weight drop, but I don’t see how? My son eats like crazy, but he’s also growing tall like crazy. This kid seems pretty darn tall for a 10 month old if you ask me 🤷🏼‍♀️ I guess some docs have different preferences.

Is he only eating baby food? Maybe you could start feeding him solids. I started my son on solids at 6 months old and now at 14 months he eats what we eat.

My son will be 11 months old the 16th of March 2019 and he weighs 17lbs and a few ounces and is above average on his height and both me and hubby are short and I'm very petite 4ft 11inches lol he weighed 6lbs 12.5oz...if doctor ain't concerned and he's drinking his milk and baby food then I wouldn't worry..kids grow at their own pace as long as they are gaining that's all that matters. Try introducing Gerber puffs as a snack my son loves them! And soft food like pieces of bread and butter...cheese...soft noodles...cut up green beans etc...I do with my son and even give him oatmeal (Gerber) with some cinnamon applesauce for breakfast and few puffs and even yogurt! Just introduce him to more solids...does he have teeth yet? Even if not their guns are tough so try some soft foods..No worries he will grow every LO is different 😁

My son was born at 6 lbs 11 oz and he is now 18 lbs at 1 year and and 33” tall. If dr isn’t worried either should you!

My son weighed about 18lbs at 12 months. He’s now 23-24lbs and 22 months old. Some kids grown on their own schedule. I wouldn’t worry unless the doctor is concerned.
