Im just making sure im not the idiot here...

Bo

The other day I was talking to my SIL about her child's teeth, he had to get caps on all of his molars due to cavities (hes 3 almost 4) he also had one tooth that was completely cracked in half.

I had asked if he drank tap water or if he only drank bottled water and she said he only drinks bottled water.. I said well he might need fluoride and she said no because baby teeth have no enamel and fluoride is bad for children... Which made me very confused, I was always under the impression they put fluoride in tap water to help strengthen the enamel of teeth, especially childrens teeth and recalled even doing monthly fluoride swishing in elementary school, that tasted like bubble gum so children's teeth would be healthy.. I was under the impression all teeth have enamel except for those who have enamel deficiency which causes tooth decay.. and fluoride helps to strengthen the teeth and prevent cavities, as my Grandfather owned a well water company where they'd have people ask about the levels of the fluoride in the water to tell their dentist so they could either be prescribed fluoride, or treat the water for too much fluoride... So my question is:

- do childrens teeth have enamel?

- is fluoride safe for children?

- am I the dumb one?
