What’s worse a binkie or sucking a thumb?

My daughter’s been using a binkie but all of a sudden she discovered her thumb. I don’t know why? Is that normal? Is the thumb better than the binkie? I used to suck my thumb can’t remember how long but it made my upper palate narrow until I got braces which made it wide.

both habits can be difficult to break, i imagine thumb sucking would be more difficult since you can’t just take it away like pacifiers. i would try and discourage it if possible but i don’t have any words of wisdom unfortunately

You can take a pacifier away but you cant take their thumb away. My children will not be thumb suckers!! Lol

Why would a thumb be better than a pacifier? You can't take her thumb away like you can a paci. So no, a thumb is certainly not better in any way. I'd work on that bad habit ASAP.

My daughter used a pacifier. It’s been tough to break and has caused some dental problems (her front top teeth are bowed although she has great speech). My youngest brother was a thumb sucker and my mom could never break him of it. His thumb is permanently flat although he has no permanent dental issues at 28 years old now. He sucked his thumb until he was like six.

Thumb sucking is worse because you could always hide a pacifier or throw it out , but your thumb is always there . I have a friend who still sucks her thumb and she’s 22. My baby was definitely going to be a thumb sucker she did it all the time while she was in my belly ( in every ultrasound ) and when she was born as well . We gave her the pacifier because atleast that’d be a little easier to break . Now she loves babbling ( she’s 7 months ) so she has a pacifier clipped to her and she mostly only puts it in when she’s tired or whiny . So long story short thumb is worst . Dentist say as long as ween off by 2 pacifier won’t do any damage

Thumb sucking is worse. Just because it can follow them their whole lives if you can’t stop it. I’m 23 & I’ve been sucking by thumb since I was a toddler 😖

You take away the pacifier and they may find their thumb. My SIL has a rough time trying to break her son of the pacifier and it took like 3 months to finally get rid of it. I never did a pacifier with my son, and he’s a thumb sucker. It got so bad his skin started shedding like a lizard but he learned and has slowly been weaning himself. He’s 22 months.
