Pregnancy weight loss experiences
Can anyone share their experiences deliberately losing weight DURING pregnancy? Any tips or suggestions for how to make this work for me and my baby?
I’ve been calorie budgeting and doing light-medium exercise (yoga, some fairly intense, and walking/jogging), plus I’ve quit all added sugars/sweeteners for over a month now. I’m in the “obese” weight category, with a BMI of 30.3 now, after losing 7 pounds already.
I’m just over 4 weeks pregnant. I’m planning on continuing calorie budgeting and exercising at least through my second trimester. I have read that for someone of my height, weight, and age, I should gain only 4-6 pounds during the entire pregnancy (which actually means losing about 20-25 pounds over the course of the 40 weeks, of the average pregnancy weight gain is 25-30 lb just from the baby, fluid, extra blood volume, milk, etc). My last pregnancy I gained over 60 pounds (and some of that I’m still working on losing!).
I am not (and will not be) starving myself whatsoever, eating whole, unprocessed foods and cooking at home, and I’m regularly taking prenatal vitamins. So I’m really not worried that I’ll harm the baby, since we know they will take what they need! I also plan to increase my calorie goal in the third trimester (so my goal is to lose as much as I can before I get there, since I figure I’ll head into “maintain” mode). I’m just curious to hear from others. Thanks!
